DIY: Spring Patterns and Bright Colors

Hello lovely friends! I try to stay positive always despite all that goes on in the world around me, there is always a bright side to every situation. This quote  kept popping in my head recently which I think is fitting for today:

“Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence…

listen to others, even the dull and ignorant;

they too have their story”

Max Erhmann’s Desiderata 1927.

You can read the full poem and background story on Wikipedia  HERE.

I am jumping into spring today with a blast from the past. This first dress I had made about 4 months ago. I went into Target, saw a stunning dress in a very pretty floral print and fell in love but did not want to pay $55 and over for it. It was a simple enough style and I had this floral ITY knit at home so I made my own! This is the first dress pattern that I ever drafted and enjoyed doing it a lot.I love the comfortable fit and I think it came out pretty well. I will update the pattern as I learned a lot from drafting it and will be making more spring and summer dresses.

I love interesting hemlines, that is why the dress caught my attention! I styled the look with some booties I had at home and a pop of pink lipstick to bring out the pink floral details in the dress.

Commercial patterns have spoiled me though lol, my second dress is a Butterick 6088 which was my backup for the Red Dress Challenge I posted about in the Red post a couple of weeks ago. It was a quick one. The tricky part was figuring out how to add the lace overlay without adding to much bulk to the bodice as this dress’ bodice is fully lined. I used a much lighter weight knit for the lining which worked great.  I will definitely be making this dress again and add a few more tweaks.

I lengthened the dress and added a bit of volume to the sleeves. I left both sleeve and hemline unfinished. The fabric is a great textured knit and I know it will not unravel. 78

Easter is almost here and I am getting excited. I have many projects planned and look forward to sharing. Watch this space, great things are coming!

See you soon, Peace Love ♥ & Kisses.
