Skirt and Crop Top * Simplicity 1099

Good morning dear friends. Long time no see! As it always does, life got too hectic for blog posts but I am so glad to be back today. I have been creating and enjoying my new sewing space (more on that later). I found this fabulous awesome-sauce great print Ankara fabric on a fabric selling Facebook page and had to have it! Such a pretty color combination and perfect for what I had in mind. I entered another contest on and this time it is a skirt contest. So I thought, match made in sewing heaven. I plunged in and cut this fabric! I love the way it came out. I know exactly where and when I will be wearing this, it is Summer now and there are endless options.

This pattern, Simplicity 1099 had been on my mind for a long time and this fabric and the contest gave me a perfect excuse to make it! It is a pretty easy pattern to make and the end result is perfect!

This is my review of this pattern: Simplicity 1099

Pattern Sizing and Views: This pattern comes in sizes 4 – 20. I cut a 14 for the top in view B and a 20 for the skirt in view D.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy to follow. This pattern would not be ideal for a fresh new beginner but after a couple of patterns this one will be clear and easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the beauty in the simplicity lol. It is an outfit which can be interpreted to fit both casual, professional and formal events. I think what i made would be more formal.

Fabric Used: Ankara – Cotton print

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did make a few alterations to the skirt. I had 6 yards of this fabric to make both the top and the skirt. I really had to figure a way to squeeze out both pieces from all the fabric i had so I reduced some fullness from the skirt pattern pieces. This also reduced some bulk from the skirt which I am more than OK with, it is much easier to handle. I just made sure to keep the waist size the same so I did not have to worry about resizing the waistband as well.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely sew this again, maybe in a midi length for work. This is a fabulous pattern and it sews up super fast, yes i would recommend this for others.

This pattern is so bold almost no styling is needed, I kept it simple with matching black and white wedges, my chandelier statement necklace, and a beautiful gray clutch. That is all from me today. Wish me luck with the contest. All in all I enjoyed making this outfit and can’t wait to wear it out!

Peace Love ♥ and Kisses.
