Happy 2018!!! Dress of Dreams *McCalls 6959*

Happy New Year my lovely friends! I want to say thank you and much love to all who have been putting up with my intermittent  blogging. I promise to do better this year. I do enjoy blogging and just need some efficient time management in order to do it consistently.

This year I am trying something new, I do not do very well with “New Year Resolutions” and half-heartedly make some which I barely follow. I don’t remember them at the end of the year and it ends up being a big waste of time and unneeded anxiety. What I had made up the next year. This year I did better in a more mindful way, choose phrase or theme for the year. Here goes

I hope you come with me on this new experience. Life can steal your happy moments by constantly focusing on the negatives and unpleasant things. I will strive to acknowledge and experience my happy moments this year. Hopefully this will help me stay positive and help remind me of the good times when the bad begin to feel overwhelming. YAY for 2018.

Now back to regularly scheduled business. Today I am sharing a dress made out of very special fabric I bought while in Cameroon in May last year. As I keep saying, my whole reason for sewing is to make beautiful outfits out of traditional Cameroonian fabrics like Lace, Wax Prints, and others. This fabric is especially interesting because part of the print is of a much more intricate hand-embroidered fabric called Togu which is native to my village Kom. The original is quite expensive and hard to get so this was a good option to try my hand at using this print. Enjoy…

The pattern M6959 is a very simple true wrap dress. I love the bias binding detail. As soon as I saw this fabric and pattern together I knew they would go perfectly. I had to be very creative with cutting the skirt but I made it work. I couldn’t stop twirling in this skirt lol.

Thank for checking me out today and I will talk to you all in a bit.

Peace Love and Kisses

  1. Oh this is beautiful! I have some wax print fabric I got in Ghana last summer and I have definitely been considering making a wrap dress out of it!
